General:

The Payroll Support position is responsible for maintaining the day to day processing of payroll for The company and subsidiary companies, as well as providing the lead contact on all matters pertaining to the benefits plans.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the employee files, including set up and termination of employees in both the electronic and paper systems
  • Process payroll on a weekly basis, including receiving time sheets, reviewing to ensure
  • Compliance with both company policies and employment standards, and calculating hours for pay and stat holiday entitlements; enter pay batches into ADP; transmit and receive payroll files; print reports

  • Payroll journal entries: reviewing ADP reports, balancing, and entering into Simply and JDA

  • Prepare payroll accruals at month end, based on journal entries; post in GL and reverse

  • Maintain payroll spreadsheet for balancing to GL

  • Prepare ROE forms for employees

  • Prepare weekly labour hours report

  • Track benefits eligibility and process new enrolments and terminations for both extended plan and pension plan

  • Communicate benefits plan information to employees and managers in a professional manner

  • Process WCB claims, short term and long term claims

  • Process contract labour payments

  • Process and allocate ADP service fees

  • Manage and maintain relationships with all store staff, managers, and executive team

  • Provide accurate and detailed reporting to Managers on a timely basis

  • Research and advise management team on Employment Standards

  • Prepare and remit all government and benefit deductions

  • Special projects and duties as assigned

Required education and experience:

  • Payroll certification
  • 3 – 5 years experience in payroll and benefits
  • Ability to operate various computer programs

Additional desired education and experience:

  • Understanding of the provincial employment standards, and the ability to apply employment standards legislation from multi provinces
  • Strong Excel skills
